The Challenge
A national revenue authority in East Africa was collecting tax and stamp duty payments through a mix of manual processes and disconnected banking channels. Reconciliation between banks, mobile network operators and government ledgers was slow, error-prone, and made it difficult for the authority to get a real-time view of collections or to act quickly on non-compliance.
Our Approach
Magilatech deployed its Electronic Payment Gateway (EPG), linking banks and mobile network operators directly into a single payment rail for government revenue. Alongside EPG, we implemented the Revenue Collection Information System (RCIS) for digital tax processing and e-Stamps for electronic stamp duty and document authentication, giving the authority a consistent, auditable trail from payment to reconciliation.
What Changed
Payments that once took days to reconcile across multiple institutions now settle and reconcile automatically. Compliance monitoring dashboards give revenue authority leadership real-time visibility into collections, and citizens and taxpayers can pay through whichever channel is most convenient to them, bank, mobile money, or in person, without the authority losing track of the transaction.
Why It Matters
Government revenue platforms carry a different risk profile to typical enterprise software: they need to work at national scale, integrate with institutions Magilatech does not control, and remain secure and available under continuous public use. This engagement reflects the broader pattern across Magilatech’s government and public sector work: purpose-built platforms, not generic software adapted to fit.
